HUMANE INVESTIGATIONS

The Washington Area Humane Society Employees a full time Humane Society Police Officers (HSPO)

  • They enforce the cruelty laws under authority granted by state Statute 22 Pa. C.S.A. Chapter 37. Click here to view the animal cruelty laws.
  • Investigate cases of animal abandonment, abuse, cruelty, neglect, and tethering.
  • Offer education and resources to the public for the humane treatment of their pets.
  • Charge actors and appear in court to prosecute cases.
  • Do not enforce Kennel Licenses, Rabies laws, or dog licenses.
  • Do not catch dogs running at large or feral cats.
  • Do not pick up stray animals.
  • Do not handle dangerous dogs, dog bites, or barking complaints.
