COMMUNITY SERVICE, SCOUTS, SCHOOL, & OTHER PROJECTS

Does your group want to do a service project? Looking for a project for your Eagle Scout Badge or Girl Scout Silver Award? Looking to complete project hours for National Honors Society? The WAHS has many suitable projects for scouts, students, and groups of all ages! Do you have your own project idea? We’d love to hear from you. Please contact us for further information or with your project idea. Please be patient, the WAHS will respond to your project idea in a timely manner.
Project Ideas:
- No Sew Dog Blankets & Cat Mats – Find a local craft store that supplies no-sew kits or buy your own material on clearance. Directions can be found by clicking here!
- Bake Homemade Treats -Find our vet approved recipes by clicking here! Please provide a list of all included ingredients when treats are handed in.
- Make Homemade Cat Toys – Use pipe cleaners to make different kinds of cat toys! Cats will enjoy batting them around. Directions can be found by clicking here!
- Make Homemade Treat Dispensers – Create a fun toy that our cats and dogs can bat around to find treats. Find how-to craft directions by clicking here!
- Donation Drives – Organize a pet supply drive in your neighborhood or local shopping center and deliver to the shelter. Find our Wish List here.
- Blanket Drive – Recruit for donations of fleece blankets, quilts, and comforters in all sizes for cats and dogs.
- Pet Toy Drive – Recruit for pet toys of all sizes and kinds, including Kong’s, Nylabones, stuffed mice, feather wands, and balls to help keep WAHS’ dogs and cats stimulated and happy.
- Pet Bed Drive– Recruit for all sizes and types of beds for pets; small/medium/large for dogs and cats!
- Create your own Media Campaign –
- Make a fundraising web-page to support your group project and the WAHS’ mission.
- Research and submit a proposal to create a “marketing campaign” for long-term shelter residents.
- Research and submit a proposal to create a pamphlet or different pamphlets educating the public about the benefits of adopting a shelter pet.
- Research and submit a proposal to create pamphlets on what to do or what to expect after adopting a dog or cat from a shelter. Each species would have its own pamphlet.
- Community Outreach Booth – Host an informational booth at a business, event, or vendor show to tell the community about the WAHS. Hand out event/clinic/wish list flyers. Collect in-kind and monetary donations from the public and bring to our shelter. Our Volunteer Coordinator can provide items such as a table cloth, a banner, flyers, and brochures. Ask our Volunteer Coordinator for the Event Schedule or choose your own time and place to host an informational booth!
DONATION DROP-OFFS/GROUP DROP-OFFS:
Please schedule drop-off dates & times with the Volunteer Coordinator. A donation drop-off includes a photo with your donations and a walk-through of the adoption areas. (The kennel is only available for walk-through to those 12 and older, unless privately escorted by a parent or guardian.)

If you want to work directly with the animals...
For projects that include working directly with the animals, all parties must first attend a Volunteer Orientation before project start date.
