Kids Share Birthday Bounty
with Animals; Saturday June 13th

Hi...we are the group that dropped off
some donations last Sat. morning that were collected at
my daughters' birthday party.
We elected
to collect items for the shelter in lieu of gifts. Anna
and Grace Owens turned 6 years old on June 4. They had
a luau party attended by some of their classmates from
Eisenhower Elementary. We asked for items from the
shelter's "wish list" on the website. Attendees
generously donated lots of dog and cat items as well as
shelter "necessities". Anna and Grace were accompanied
by their cousins, Andrew and Ryan Rauber, for the
delivery of the donations.
Thanks for
taking the kids picture! And thanks for all that you do
for the animals. My parents' cat, "Charlie", was
adopted from WAHS over 10 years ago!
Sincerely,
Robin Owens

Cooper Donehoo's Birthday Donation
|
| |
|
| |
 |
|
Cooper’s present request
for his 11th birthday was different from past
years. This year, Cooper asked his buddies to bring him
donations of food and litter for the Washington Area Humane
Society rather than gifts for him when they joined him for a
camp out party. His friends came through with an abundance
of dog and cat food along with litter, dog treats, kitty
formula and washable dog toys.
Along with his mom and his
brother, Ian, the donations were delivered to the shelter
the day after his party. Many of his friends and their
families thought that this was a pretty cool idea so
Cooper’s hope is that they do the same for their next
birthday parties.
Thank you for what you do,
Bridget Lied
Cooper’s proud mom!!

Comcast and Point Park
Paint and Plant at WAHS |
| |

 |
|
And
boy did we need it! For five years WAHS has sought Eagle Scouts and
benefactors who would paint the dog kennels and ceiling to no avail.
Comcast
who for the second year in a row made WAHS their Comcast Care Day
charity choice came to the rescue. Fifty volunteers from Comcast
descended on the shelter on Saturday, April 25th to paint, plant and
improve the shelter. All 34 inner dog kennels and the ceilings were
completed by Comcast. On their heels the following day was a busload
of Point Park college students to finish the job, by painting the
exterior kennels. Anchoring the entire project was volunteer, Rob
Simonin who coordinated, oversaw, assembled the supplies and was
manning the pressure washer the week before and wielding a
paintbrush the entire two days elbow to elbow with Comcast and Point
Park volunteers.
The work
effort and results are impressive. We hope that some benefactor will
come to us check in hand, and tell us that the whole shelter will be
rebuilt from the ground up, but that's just wishing. For now,
volunteers are what makes it happen at WAHS.

Former Alum, Champ, visits Mac
Shack in North Strabane |
| |

The Mac Shack,
North Strabane’s school supply store, held a holiday raffle during
the month of December.
The proceeds from the raffle were to go to the Washington Area
Humane Society. Students
raffled stockings filled with school supplies.
The Mac Shack was able to donate $300.00 to the humane
society as a result of their efforts.
Pictured is sixth
grader, Malina Dziak, surrounded by Mac Shack employees presenting
the money to Mrs. Linda Campbell, a representative of the Washington
Area Humane Society.

|
Volunteer Linda
Campbell and her adopted dog, Champ went to North Strabane's
Intermediate on Dec. 22, 2008 to receive this donation. Mrs. Bev
White's small group of students raised this money for our shelter,
in 2 weeks, by selling 25 cent raffle tickets for Christmas
stockings at the school store, the Mac Shack. Each year, the
students vote ahead of time which charity they wish to support and
for the second time they chose the animals at WAHS. They received
the wrapping paper that pictures dogs at WAHS, because Champ's
picture on it. Meeting Champ and seeing his former pic on the
wrapping paper was a way for them to remember how their generosity
leads to happy tails for the adopted animals.

A Fabulous Fundraiser - All done in
the name of love! |
| |
 |
|
Volunteer Linda Caputo and two of her co-workers helped create more than
600 custom valentines featuring WAHS adoptable dogs and cats as a unique
fundraiser for the shelter. She launched the concept in January,
expecting to raise a few hundred dollars with the $5.00 Valentine and
she was as surprised as everyone else that the reception was so
incredible. As the last of the valentines were mailed, the total amount
of money raised from them and other accumulated donations was nearly
$4,000.00.
As promised on the promotional form, Linda and her
daughter arrived at the shelter on February 14th to personally serve the
dogs and cats, including Speckles (pictured top left), who did not have
a loving home, a tasty valentine treat.

| |
 |
|
Every year Honey Bunny celebrates her birthday (this
year was her tenth) with 50 guests, an outdoor picnic and wonderful
home cooking. This year's theme was M&Ms. There was an M&M birthday
cake, an M&M tree, M&M favors and M&M decorations.
In lieu of gifts, party-goers were asked to donate
items the the Humane Society could use. 440 lbs of dog food, cat
litter, cat food, plus $80 in donations were contributed.
The Berdines of Washington host the annual party
which is by invitation only. |

Hi, it is Buttons, Pandi, and Cuddles Holmes. We
would like to tell you about our girl Amanda Rose
Holmes. Every year her high school, South Fayette, has a
food drive for the Washington Area Human Society. This was
the 3rd year, wow !!!! We made 3 trips to the shelter with
truck loads of pet supplies.
Also this holiday season, me (Buttons) turned 8 years old.
When I was a puppy (8 weeks) I was left on the side of the
road with my 3 brothers and 1 sister. It was a cold February
night and we would like to thank the Washington Area Human
Society for having their doors open for us, the discarded
and unwanted ones.
My human mom (Maria Holmes) says I am her soul mate! The
Washington Area Human Society gives hope when hope seems
lost. Please think about adoption because with every life
that comes into yours, your heart will grow. We must always
remember to do small things with great love because many
small things turn into great successes. May this valentines
day bring true forever homes to the animals.

The fundraiser that Amy and Dominic
Dallapiazza along with Ollie the cat, did at the Giant Eagle in
McDonald turned out really well. They collected $218.00 in donations
as well as 152 lbs of Dry
dog food, Dry cat food: 68 lbs., Wet dog food: 35 cans, Wet cat
food: 48 cans, Dog treats: 6 packages, Baby food: 8 jars, Bleach: 4
bottles, Paper towels: 10 rolls, Dish liquid: 1 bottle, Cat shampoo,
Envelopes, Disinfectant wipes, Hand sanitizer, Pens and Baby wipes.
"I
am so proud of our small community of McDonald," Amy siad. With
tough economic times, it is wonderful to see people still willing to
give to a most important cause, God's creatures.
