The Washington Area
Humane Society is a qualifying charity on
igive.com and
GoodShop.com. We
receive percentages of all sales when purchased through the websites. So many of
the biggest name retailers participate
that you hardly to need to look elsewhere -- Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Home Depot, Old Navy, Petco,
Sharper Image, Target -- The list is so long ... before you shop,
check and see if your store is listed. Chances are what you would
have purchased directly from the retailer's site can be purchased
through igive.com or
GoodShop.com
and the
shelter will receive a portion as a donation. For specific donation
percentages, see the entire list of stores from A to Z

The
Washington Area Humane Society is happy to introduce “CLUB 360” — A
circle of caring contributors who commit to donating $360.00 annually.
Would it surprise you that, on average, the annual cost for the care of
a homeless pet at our facility is $360? It’s true. While some pets only
spend a short time at our shelter, others spend as long as a year or
more before finding that new adoptive family. So on average, the expense
of providing care for each of the over 2000 homeless pets we care for
each year is $360.
With this in mind, we are happy to announce
the creation of Club 360. As a member of Club 360, you establish
yourself as our partner in our ongoing mission to care for the homeless,
abused and neglected animals in our area. With your tax deductible
donation of $360 — less than a dollar a day — you become part of the
special group of caring contributors who provide full-circle care for
animals at our shelter. Please join the Club and contribute to the care
of a homeless pet!

Partners,
Angels, Trustees, Helpers, Saviors ...P.A.T.H.S. Program |
|
If you have visited us, you can see that our
cages and dog runs are always full. Dedicated employees care for these
dogs, cats, and rabbits 7 days a week, and we can only afford to pay them
a little more than minimum wage. We are barely making payroll. It is a
week-to-week struggle to meet expenses. We receive no funding from the
county and only a few of the municipalities contribute. Many wonderful
people bring us food, cat litter, and supplies, but we desperately need
monetary donations to meet monthly expenses.
One way you can help is to join our PATHS
Program (Partners, Angels, Trustees, Helpers, Saviors) and pledge an
amount to contribute each month.
We ask all dedicated animal lovers to take it
upon themselves to assure that the basic needs at the shelter are able to be funded
on a monthly basis. If we can be assured of a steady income for routine monthly
expenses, we may be able to make the necessary changes and badly needed
repairs with our other fundraisers.
Whether you join the PATHS Program or just
send a donation to help us continue to care for many unwanted pets at the
Humane Society, the Board of Directors, employees, volunteers and our
orphaned animals will be sincerely grateful for your thoughtfulness. All
contributors will receive our newsletter which informs our friends of
fundraising events, abuse investigations, and ongoing news about our
homeless animals.

Barn Homes Needed for
Some Unhappy Cats.
Some of our cats that
come to us for a second chance do not adjust to living in a cage,
especially for a long periods. They sometimes bite and scratch because
they are scared, depressed, or just unsocialized. Many of them become
social and friendly once they are in a cage-free environment. If you
have a warm barn and are willing to feed and care for one of our
cage-crazed cats, please call our “Cat Adoption Area” at 724-222-7387.
You will be saving a cat and most likely be getting a mouser.

Aluminum
Can Collection
Save all your aluminum cans and bring them to
the shelter. This is a great way for us to raise money for the homeless
animals. Please Note That We Are Only Reimbursed For Aluminum Cans.
Please sort through your recyclables and
discard steel, plastic and glass items. Volunteers have spent countless
hours opening and sorting through mountains of bagged cans to separate the
aluminum from the other debris for the shelter to be reimbursed by the
recycler.
Thank you for your help. |

Can't Adopt an Animal but
Would Love to Help One? |
|

Sometimes the timing is not right, or
the circumstances make it impossible to adopt a dog or cat who captures
your heart.
Consider sponsoring a pet's adoption by purchasing a GET OUT OF JAIL
FREE Card for that dog or cat who melts your heart. Choose an
adoptable adult dog or cat, and pay their adoption fee (Dogs: $75.00 /
Cats: $60.00). We will keep the card on file until someone chooses that
dog or cat to adopt, fills out the application and is approved. Only
then will they be told that their new best friend has a Get Out of Jail
Free card, and when they ride out into the sunset together we will mail
the card to you so you can share in the joy.

We Need Doghouses
Before winter sets in, we try to stock up on
dog houses to give to people who cannot afford them and more importantly
to protect the dogs from the bitter cold and wind when there is no other
place for them to go.
There is an ongoing need for doghouses and
we welcome donations. Please donate sturdy, waterproof doghouses to WAHS
where we can put them to good use. |
