Dog
Australian
Shepherd mix
Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
Date: 2.19.08
Notes:
There are few as sweet as
Honey. The pretty aussie mix with the super-soft speckled
gray and black coat is a literal whirling dervish driven to spin in
her cage endlessly. Currently deemed a neurological problem, it
appears that Honey has one blind eye and that her spinning,
exacerbated by stress, may be related to her inability to see out of
that eye. When walkers take her outside, Honey fares very well. The
spinning fades significantly when she is engaged sniffing the
ground, pressed to jog, or just held firmly on lead to block the
“urge.” Talk to Honey sweetly and she pays close attention. Reach
out for her and she shows her gratitude by returning the affection.
The presence of other, large dogs seems to elevate the stress which sets
her to spinning again in frustration. She has been more confident
with smaller dogs. A quiet home with some
behavioral modification and the TLC that Honey would thrive on could
provide this darling dog with a happy life.
