Hi! I'm Riff Raff, an orange male Domestic Short
Hair a little over two years old. I was brought to the shelter on
1-13-12 when I was found as a stray. After running some tests the
staff found that I'm FIV positive (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus).
This virus is in the same family as the human AIDS virus. FIV can be
transmitted from saliva to blood through biting and through sex.
It's unlikely but it could also be transmitted from mutual grooming
and eating and drinking from virus-ridden bowls.
Humans and other animals aren't at risk to acquire this from me but
I could expose this to my fellow cats. Cats with FIV can lead
normal lives. I'm in great shape and I'm poised to live a long
healthy life. I'm ready to go home but I can only leave with
someone if they have a house with no other cats. The only exception
for cats I can live with is if they are also FIV positive. I'm a
good boy facing some adversity but I'm hopeful for good things to come.
For more information about me, call 724-222-7387 or
come pay us a visit at the shelter any day!
