Kitty Korner: Special Cats Who Need Special People

FrontLine Needed for
Cats and Kittens Now.

During the summer months, the Humane Society receives many cats and kittens infested with fleas. We desperately need Frontline for cats and kittens. If you wish to donate Frontline, you can purchase it at our front counter at our cost, or send a donation specifying that it is for Frontline.

      Sad Little Libby

Look at me! Don't I have the most beautiful green eyes that you ever saw? My story is a sad one. For years I had a loving owner and recently she passed away and there was no one to take care of me so I was brought to the Humane Society. I was so lonely at the Humane Society and cried all the time, so a volunteer decided to foster me. I like it here as I have many window perches to watch the birds, but some of the other cats like to chase me and it scares me. I really need a home with adults and perhaps a gentle cat. I am very loving and like to play with toys. I eat dry food and a little canned food for a treat. I am also declawed and I am very small, so I wouldn't take up much room. If you would like to meet me, please call my foster Mom at 724-267-4129.

Little Bitty Bocefious Needs Your Help

Bocefious came to us as a stray on May 9th, 2007. He had a very bad, large, infected wound on his head near his ear. This was treated and took an inordinately long time to heal. Shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with diabetes and treated with insulin. An initial first foster home was found for him and his wound healed, but the foster parent had to return him because she was not allowed to have pets where she rented. Since that time, Bocefious has been a model patient and tolerates his twice daily insulin shots well. We let him exercise each day. He is a very lovable cat. His blood has been tested several times and insulin levels gauged for the day which fluctuated at different high rates. The veterinarian is evaluating these levels and will determine course of treatment and insulin required. Bocefious will always need insulin which is very expensive for the shelter. We are appealing to our members and the public to help us with this ongoing expense. The sweet orange kitty is in another foster home and this will help with his care. The lady fostering him will adopt him if someone will volunteer to provide his Insulin for as long as he lives.  He is a delightful and loving cat who only wants to be in loving home. Please help us take care of him. Please make donations marked for the "BOCEFIOUS FUND". Thank you for your help.

Facny and Lacey's Owner Died and Now They Only Have Each Other

We are two beautiful, lonely calico cats. Our owner passed away and now we lost our wonderful home and have to live in a cage which is so depressing. We are sisters and don't want to be separated. We are very gentle and a little shy so we need to be in an adult home. We do like other gentle cats. We like to be held and loved. We are middle age cats, but feel we have lots of years left to love and be loved. Someone has donated some money for us to have our teeth cleaned and then we are ready for that forever home. Please come and visit us at the Humane Society.

Help at PetSmart

Weekend Volunteers

Penny Savers

Volunteers are needed to occasionally check on our cats at the Strabane Square PetSmart in Washington. We have 4 cages in the store displaying our cats. Volunteers check on food and water supplies, scoop kitty litter pans, brush the cats and show them to potential adopters. If you could help 1 or 2 days a month, please call Patty at 724-267-4129.

Why not volunteer one Saturday or Sunday a month to introduce our cats to clients? Your care in brushing and handling the cats will also help improve their socialization skills.

We also need volunteers to help with adoption follow-up phone calls. This is great P.R. for the Humane Society and adopters love talking about their new friend. Call Patty 724-267-4129.

Some cats like small change, but to play it safe, it's better to put your pennies in a piggy bank or at least out of reach.

All pennies minted after 1982 contain 96% Zinc, which can be poisonous to pets.

 Meet Jasper

I am a beautiful neutered male and I was brought to the WAHS by a good Samaritan. My right-front paw was injured and needed to be removed, but I get around just great on 3 legs. The vet thought it looked like I was caught in a trap and that was very painful. I was scared of everyone at first, but have come to love and trust these good people who are caring for me. I am a love-bug. I know I am black and don't have a coat of beautiful colors, but I am beautiful inside. I love to play and am very loving and gentle. I dream of the day when someone will give me a safe, indoor, loving home where I can never be hurt again. Please come and visit me, I'll be waiting for you!!

Max is waiting for you

I am a beautiful, black, declawed, neutered, male cat. My story is a sad one. I was adopted last year to a very nice family that had another cat and a dog. I could handle the cat, but the dog was very obnoxious. He constantly barked and lunged at anyone who came to the door and he scared me so I challenged him. This went on for almost a year and then my new- family- decided to return me to the Humane Society. I need a home with no dogs and would get along with a gentle female cat. It is so depressing sitting in this cage again, everyone wants kittens this time of year and I dread to think I may be here for a long time. I love to play and I loved to have my head rubbed and I could be your purr-fect lap cat. Please come and visit me and all my other new friends here. We all need someone to love us.
